Turn it up and Speak out!

photogenX DTS

PhotogenX student at the UofN Kona campusPhotography can change history. A video can expose injustice. As followers of Jesus, we can use photography to confront injustice and speak up for the voiceless. The photogenX DTS is passionate about seeing injustice confronted through photography, media and writing. The photogenX DTS will enable students to grasp the basics of photography in addition to all the core teachings of a DTS.

The photogenX DTS is a part of photogenX: A Voice for the Voiceless, which is a ministry of Youth With A Mission. PhotogenX is engaged in fighting injustice on several fronts including infanticide in the Amazon (see clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbjRU6_Zj0U). Be warned, this contains disturbing footage. For more information go to www.hakani.org), sex trafficking (www.photogenX.net/sexandmoney) around the world and issues of voicelessness globally (see http://www.photogenx.net/publish_voice.htm).

The photogenX DTS is for you if you love Jesus, are interested in fighting injustice and voicelessness and are willing to engage in photography and other forms of communication. Please note we take all skill levels, from professional photographers to those who are just getting started with photography.

We view the photogenX DTS as a bridge rather than a destination. We encourage all people considering our school to pray about joining our ministry long-term. We have a two-year around the world track, a branch of the ministry in Cape Town, South Africa and the photogenX international office in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. There are various staff opportunities to serve in general operations, training, publishing and touring areas. (See the current around the world track in the video below.)

"Poverty-stricken as the Church is today in many things, she is most stricken here, in the place of prayer...Failing here, we fail everywhere."
- Leonard Ravenhill

Of all the "good-ideas" in the world, how many of them are birthed in the secret place of prayer?  Even response to tragedy, though fueled by good intentions, can sacrifice Great at the altar of good if not continually bathed in intercession with Heaven.  Even when I'm doing things birthed out of prayer - am I still praying my way through it!?  ...I am speaking to myself.

Busy-ness is what you're left with when the Spirit stops leading.

We woke up early... another somewhat sleepless night.  On certain days I feel the Spirit nudge me in the morning, and say "you need nourishment today".  Oh man, I have to get in the Word this morning...there's something different in the air today.  The pastor of the church, on who's roof we were camped, asked us to go to the service today from 7:30-12.  In all honesty, we wanted to bless him by attending, but as much as we would love to sit through a 5 our service in Creole on Justin and Jennifer's last day in Haiti, we weren't about to do that.

Thank goodness we have Sean.  Sean's the type of guy who could talk you into jumping into the ocean with a kayak full of camping supplies at midnight and paddling to an unoccupied boat dock 200 yards from shore, then at sunrise, upon seeing a whale half a mile out, convincing you to chase it til you're literally within feet of it (true story).  He sweet-talked them into releasing us to set up a clinic not far down the road.  Some of us would do that, some of us were going with Matt...
