Use your God-given artistic talents to communicate God's heart

The School of Illustration trains students to draw on the creative power of God in visual communication. It teaches professional drawing and painting techniques for commercial art and missions. Conveying biblical concepts, and communicating God’s heart are the focus of this school.

  • Drawing, composition, and design
  • Perspective, nature and life drawing
  • Painting techniques in watercolor, oil, acrylic, airbrush and more
  • Visual concept design
  • Computer design in illustration
  • Portfolio preparation
Learn from outstanding professional illustrators the essentials of drawing, painting and creative concepts. Illustration is a broad field of commercial art that includes creating artwork for areas such as: advertising, magazine and book publication, product design, cartooning and humorous illustration, editorial, medical and technical illustration, entertainment, childrens books and bibles, educational material, corporate design, tracts and missions publications. This course exposes students to the variety of new ways that illustrators can use their skills for the Kingdom of God.

Prerequisites: Completion of the YWAM-DTS (Discipleship Training School and Field Assignment -- IDS 701/702) or YWAM-CDTS (Crossroads Discipleship Training School -- IDS 703/704). Five examples of the student’s artwork. 12 Credits

Who should Attend?

These schools are for those who desire to grow closer to the Lord and use their artistic talents to share God’s love through illustration. This training is for those who want to grow in godly character and apply biblical principles in their lives, in addition to broadening their artistic skills. Strong drawing ability is recommended.

COM 227 Illustration Internship

UofN Kona campus - School of Illustration display showThe internship provides an opportunity for working experience in a design studio or missions setting abroad. Students excel in their artwork, and may have the potential for publication of their illustrations and further portfolio development. Internships are individualized for business or ministry according to abilities and area of interest.
