The demand for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is exploding in many nations as English has become the primary language of international commerce and electronic communications. The University of the Nations seeks to help satisfy this global demand for qualified English teachers through its TESOL program, an intensive six-week course which is offered from Feb. 18 to March 31st and Aug. 12th to Sept 22nd.

Why should I consider taking this course?
Teaching English opens a wide variety of service opportunities for Christians seeking to serve in limited access countries. Teaching jobs often come with good salaries and housing and open doors of ministry to a wide variety of people and places.

TESOLWhat are the opportunities?
Teach overseas (or in the United States) to adults or children...
• in public or private schools
• in trades or professional training programs
• in outreach programs
• on an individual basis as a paid or volunteer tutor
• in refugee centers or with immigrants

What will I learn?
This intensive course includes 200 hours of class time and 30+ hours of practice teaching and classroom observation. It provides training on lesson design, second language acquisition, materials development, evaluation, in addition to theories and practical application of teaching speaking, reading, writing, listening, grammar and pronunciation.

Personal laptop computers are required. They are used extensively for assignments, lesson planning, instruction and research. The internet is surveyed daily for pertinent information. Students will be provided opportunities for practice-teaching with non-native English speakers. This course is interactive and focuses on balance between the academic and the practical.

Prerequisites
Students are required to be proficient in speaking, writing, and reading English. Non-native English speakers must have a satisfactory TOEFL score and/or approval from the course leader.

Credits
Six (6) credits will be earned upon successful completion of HIS 511. These credits may be applied to a UofN degree program or transferred to other colleges and universities.
